Exams in secondary school and in the final year of the middle school of basic education about Portuguese and Mathematics.

Huge-clusters of schools. Some teachers move between several establishments.

Exams only at the end of secondary school.

Weekly duration: Varies between 20 to 30 hours, depending on age 8:00 to 9:00, and school; Breaks: Short breaks, with time for snacks; Shifts: No shifts. Classes take place in the morning or afternoon.

School starts at the age of 6, sometimes at 5, and is obligatory until the age of 18.

Compulsory education from 7 to 16 years old.

Small and autonomous schools. No teacher teaches at more than one school.

Inclusion of practical subjects in the curriculum (cooking, carpentry, arts, music, etc.).

Exclusion of partical work having more theoric and boting subjects. It is possible that some classes have some subjects with shifts.

Small class sizes (generally less than 20 students) and support teachers where necessary to support students with special needs.

Private education is residual.

Classes can have up to 30 students. Co-teaching situations are rare due to lack of resources in schools and there have been cuts in educational support.

Public favouring policies for private businesses in education.
