Education Department (ED) announces FAFSA will be delayed from Oct. 1 to December 2023.
Office of Financial Aid (OFA) begins work on FAFSA 2024 web page to help get families updated info.
ED announces that 24-25 FAFSA will be available "by Dec. 31"

The 24-25 FAFSA opens. The few families that manage to log in experience challenges trying to complete the form.
FAFSA 2024 web page and MSU Parent Facebook group is updated weekly, delivering updates and potential workarounds to frustrated families.

Glitches and frustrations continue, especially for students whose parents have no Social Security number. FAFSA helpline is overwhelmed.
Weekly staff trainings are held to educate financial aid staff for the FAFSA changes, in anticipation of receiving FAFSA data at the end of Jan.
On the day FAFSA data is expected to begin arriving at MSU, ED announces it will now arrive in the "first half of March."

Doubts that schools will be able to deliver aid packages in time for students to choose a school before Decision Day (May 1) grow stronger.

ED reports that an error in their formula means that many students' data is incorrect.
After months of regular meetings with our software vendor, OFA is hopeful that software update will generate accurate award packages when the FAFSA error is fixed.

Office of Admissions secures MSU's largest-ever incoming class. OA and Financial Aid continue to work with families experiencing FAFSA difficulties.

Major issues with aid packages are ironed out by the start of fall semester. OFA delivers a record amount of aid by the first day of classes.

Staff continue reaching out to and working one-on-one with students still affected by FAFSA errors.
2025-26 FAFSA launches before Dec. 1. By Dec. 18, MSU has received over 20,000 valid FAFSAs with thousands more arriving each week.
