DEFINITION
It is a pact that seeks to strengthen governance for the comprehensive administration of the oceans, with the harmonization of territorial and marine planning and management instruments.
problem
Underwater life is constantly threatened: excess paving on the coast, the dumping of nutrients derived from agriculture into the ocean or inadequate wastewater treatment are some of the main causes of the destruction of this habitat.
The consequences caused by contaminated water are:
consequences
Destruction of biodiversity
Shortage of drinking water
Food chain pollution
Diseases
Infant mortality
Six of the most polluting countries are the United States, China, Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom and Korea, which could be among the most affected, along with others from cold latitudes such as Iceland, Norway or Denmark, where the impact of acidification will predictably be higher.

What is being done about it?
Here's what we can do to reduce pollution
Recycling and reduction of plastics
Contaminant removal technologies
Contaminant removal technologies
Restoration of marine ecosystems
Speak in education and awareness
Political actions and international agreements
These are some of the places where they help
COSTA RICA
Costa Rica has earned recognition for its environmental policies, particularly its efforts to reduce plastic pollution. The country has implemented bans on single-use plastics and is committed to becoming carbon-neutral by 2050. The country has also focused on protecting marine ecosystems, with many marine protected areas in place.
Australia
Both countries are taking significant steps to tackle marine pollution, including bans on single-use plastics, initiatives to protect coral reefs, and investment in clean-up technologies. Australia has focused on the Great Barrier Reef restoration, and New Zealand has taken steps to reduce plastic waste through regulatory measures and promoting sustainability.
Japan
Japan has long had a strong waste management and recycling culture. The country is increasingly focusing on addressing plastic pollution through initiatives like improving waste segregation and using advanced technologies to clean the ocean. Japan has also taken part in international collaborations to address marine pollution, such as in the Asia-Pacific region.
Personal proposal for a solution
We think that in order to solve ocean pollution we can reduce plastics and start recycling, we can also not throw garbage into the sea and thus we can improve the world.
