DESTINATION

The destination is Turtle Cove on the island of Nosy Komba and In the village of Ampohana, located on a white sand beach lined with coconut and casuarina trees, on the main coast of Madagascar, where a secure nesting area has been identified.

THE CULTURE OF MADAGASCAR

The culture is reflected in its traditional dances, haunting music and ancestral beliefs. Local handicrafts, including wood and stone carving and basketry, bear witness to the craftsmanship handed down from generation to generation.

OBJECTIVE

THE OBJECTIVE IS THE CONSERVATION OF MARINE SPECIES AND TURTLES

The objectives will vary depending on the season: -November to April: Nesting season -May to October: Outside nesting season Participation in seagrass surveys through snorkeling sessions. Turtle monitoring and beach cleaning.

DURATION AND PRICE

  • The duration of the volunteering is 1 to 12 weeks
  • The price of the trip for 2 weeks in March with flight, accommodation and meals included is 1739 euros

MEALS

Volunteers have three meals a day, prepared in the traditional, home-cooked style. The meals are simple, but nutritious and tasty. Breakfast includes pancakes, eggs or bread with condiments. Lunch is rice or pasta, and dinner is rice. Lunch and dinner are usually chicken, zebu (beef) or fish, served with vegetables, beans and sauce. Volunteers from the turtle conservation project in Ampohana can buy snacks in a small village shop.
