In 1282, England´s King Edward I conquered Wales and then he was their king too. In 1603, King James VI united England and Scotland and decided to call his new kingdom Great Britain. But Great Britain wasn´t officially acountry until 1707.
GREAT BRITAIN
THE UNITED KINGDOM
iN 1801, Ireland joined Great Britain and these countries together formed the United Kingdom. But many Irish people in the south weren´t happy about this. They wanted their own country. So, in 1922, the people in the south formed their own country, the Republic of Ireland, and the people in the north of Ireland stayed in Great Britain. This is why the UK is now the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northen Ireland.
THE BRITISH ISLES
