Elizabethan theatres were typically open-air structures with a circular or polygonal shape. The most famous example is the Globe Theatre. They had a thrust stage, allowing the audience to surround it on three sides.
Plays often explored themes of love, power, revenge, and the supernatural. Popular genres included tragedies, comedies, histories, and romances, with Shakespeare’s works epitomizing this diversity.
All actors were male, as women were not allowed to perform on stage. Young boys played female roles.
