Death/Dying Practices
In Muslim culture, death is seen as a natural part of life and a transition to the afterlife. After death the body is treated with great respect. Mourning is typically quiet, with family and friends offering prayers and support.
When someone passes the religious requirement is that the body is washed and draped before the burial.
Those who pass are always buried and never cremated. The body will be turned over to Mecca.
Muslim women typicaically don't attend the burials, just the men do.
Only relatives or friends may touch the body of someone who has passed

"Haram" foods are forbidden food in Muslim culture such as pork, gelatin, birds of prey (those with talons), insects, reptiles, alcohol, etc.

The Five Pillars of Islam
The Five Pillars are the core beliefs and practices
1. Profession of Faith- the belief that there is no God but God and that Muhammad is the messenger of God.
3. Alms- donate a fixed portion of their income to community members in need. Rulers and the wealthy will build hospitals, schools, and other insitutions to secure blessings.
Mecca is the holiest city in Islam and the birthplace of Prophet Muhammad. Prophet Muhammad was an Arab Religious and political leader, and the founder of Islam.
- Ramadan is practiced to deepen a Muslim's connection with Allah, strengthen discipline, and remind Muslim's of the suffering of the less fortunate.
- By particapting in fasting this helps practice self control, recognize ones blessings, and bring awareness of the struggles of those in need.
During Ramadan, Muslims are supposed to fast. The fast includes both food and liquid, including water. This can cause complications for those with diabetes or when fasting is done in the summertime.
