What is adicction to drugs
Drug addiction is a brain disease where excessive drug use leads to the brain craving more to function. Quitting becomes difficult as addictive drugs alter brain function. Factors like genetics, social environment, and lifestyle influence addiction. Tolerance is needing more of the drug to feel the same effect, while dependence is the physical and psychological need for the drug to function.
Consequences of drug addiction
1. PHYSICAL CONSEQUENCES:
- Damage to vital organs: liver (alcohol), lungs (tobacco), or heart (cocaine).
- Increases the risk of diseases: Hepatitis, HIV, respiratory diseases
- Physical deterioration: Extreme weight loss, poor hygiene, and even risk of death.
2. PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSEQUENCES:
- Mental disorders: anxiety, depression, psychosis
- Memory problems and difficulty concentrating
3. SOCIAL CONSEQUENCES:
- Drugs can destroy family and friends relationships, and can cause social isolation.
- Legal issues if you use illegal drugs.
4. ECONOMIC CONSEQUENCES:
- Financial problems because they have to spend large amounts of money.
- Job problems: lack of punctuality, and low ability to keep a job.
