The first consequence of child labor is school dropout,this represents the loss of any prospect of future, perpetuating the cycle that leads from poverty to further poverty. Other consequences are those on the physique of children, subjected to repeated and heavy efforts and at risk of accidents. But there are also repercussions on their psyche, due to the isolation from other peers and the difficult context in which they have to spend long hours of their day..

The fight against social inequalities and the strengthening of social protection systems are the two most important strategies to reduce the number of child workers.The allocation of adequate resources to national school systems is also fundamental, in order to allow access to education for all boys and girls (->making books and transport to school free)

Nowadays: Why and Where children are working?

In Italy, child labor under the age of 16 is illegal, therefore cases of exploited girls and boys are mostly invisible, only to end up in the news due to accidents or police investigations. Child exploitation is primarily driven by poverty and social exclusion. Families with insufficient income often rely on children to work. Conflicts and displacement exagerate this issue, as families lose their income and children are more vulnerable to exploitation. During times of crisis, such as pandemics or wars, child trafficking increases, with children being exploited in prostitution, forced labor, and begging.

The region where child exploitation is most present is Sub-Saharan Africa.In fact, there are 125.6 million child workers here, 38.6 million of whom do dangerous jobs. Asia Pacific follows, with 70.9 million.
