Who?

Thanksgiving has a long history. It began in 1621, when the Pilgrims, a group of settlers from England, came to America on a ship called the Mayflower. They landed in what is now Massachusetts and started a new life. The first year was very hard for the Pilgrims. Many of them got sick, and they didn’t have enough food to eat during the cold winter. Luckily, a group of Native Americans, including a man named Squanto, helped the Pilgrims. They taught the settlers how to grow corn, catch fish, and hunt wild animals. With their help, the Pilgrims had a successful harvest the next year.

How?

To celebrate, the Pilgrims and the Native Americans shared a big meal. This meal is known as the first Thanksgiving. It lasted for three days, and people ate food like turkey, deer, fish, corn, and squash. They also played games and gave thanks for the harvest and for each other’s friendship.
