Costa Rica Progress

Why Costa Rica?

We decided on Costa Rica as our Global South country as although they are still developing they are ahead of some developed countries in some aspects of SDG progress, for example they generate over 99% of their electricity from renewable sources (IEA, 2023), compared to Japan's 21% (IRENA, 2021).

In contrast, Global South countries are less developed and still in the process of industrialising, as a consequence they can struggle to exert political influence on other countries. Citizens of Global South countries are likely to receive lower incomes than their Global North counterparts, and also struggle with limited access to vital services such as healthcare and education.
