Scouse dialect

The Scouse accent is highly distinctive; having been influenced heavily by Irish, Norwegian, and Welsh immigrants who arrived via the Liverpool docks, it has little in common with the accents of its neighbouring regions or the rest of England. The accent is named after scouse, a stew eaten by sailors and locals. This presentation will explore its particularities , impressions , social associations and why it sounds out.

Accentism?

- Accentism : Accentism refers to discrimination or prejudice against people based on their accent or the way they talk. -A person with a Scouse accent could be considered less competent or professional simply because of their accent, which could reduce their chances of getting a job, even if they are perfectly qualified. -At social events, a person with a Scouse accent can be immediately judged and stereotyped in a negative way, which can be difficult to personal relationships and social integration.

Overall Perception

-The Scouse accent, like many regional accents, can be both loved and disliked. Attitudes are changing to become more appreciative and respectful of linguistic diversity, but challenges remain. -I chose the Scouse accent for its profound connection with the city of Liverpool: Liverpool is a city rich in history and culture, thanks in particular to global icons such as the Beatles. The Scouse accent is a gateway to this rich culture.
