Compound Inequalities
Objectives: * write and graph compound inequalities from sentences * simplify compound inequalities * identify special solution sets created by compound inequalitiesVocabulary * Compound Inequality
start
For lunch, you must eat your peas AND carrots. -vs- For lunch, you must eat your peas or your carrots.
Both must go down the hatch!
One must go, but you could eat both.
next
A compound inequality is formed by joining two inequalities with the word "and" or "or".
next
"AND" Example x > 4 and x < 10
What numbers are greater than 4 AND less than 10? Draw two numbers line and look for the overlap of shaded regions.
next
"OR" Example x < 4 or x < 10
What numbers are less than 4 OR less than 10? Draw two number lines and combine the shaded regions!
next
Write and graph the inequality. A number x is less than 8 and greater than or equal to -2.
next
ZOOM POLL
A number k is less than or equal to 13 and more than -2.
next
ZOOM POLL
A number n is less than 6 or greater than 7

real world Apps!
Write an inequality for the scenario: If a turtle needs a habit temperature of greater than 70 degrees AND less than 100 degrees... For water to be liquid, the temperature has to be at least 32 degrees AND at most 212 degrees. A lizard will not survive in temperatures less than 50 degrees OR greater than 110 degrees.

Reverse! reverse!
Write the inequality give the graph.
remember to do your cfu in edio!
You should be able to: * write and graph compound inequalities from sentences * simplify compound inequalities * identify special solution sets created by compound inequalities
