The muscular system

SUMMARY

The muscular system permits movement of the body, maintains posture, and circulates blood throughout the body. Composing beetwen 30% and 40% of the total body weight, it's made up of 3 main muscle types . Its connection to the Neurosystem allows the control and consequent movement of the muscles, which is divided into 3 types. Movement is respinsable for the production of heat.

property of muscles

Excitability: an ability to respond to stimuli

Contractibility: an ability to contract.

Extensibility: an ability to be stretched without tearing

Elasticity: an ability to return to its normal shape

Adaptability: an ability to adapt during growth to fit the changing skeletal size, to hypertrophy as a result of overload to more easily handle a task,

SMOOTH MUSCLE

Lines up the blood vessels and certain organs like intestine.involuntary

SKELETAL MUSCLE

Connected to the bones via tendons allowing the movement.

CARDIAC MUSCLE

Only found in the heart.Striated but involuntary, allows the heart to pump blood

FIBERS

All muscle types are made by fibers blunded togheter. These are connected to the Neurosystem and generates motion. Divede into 2 main types:

FAST TWITCH

USES ANAEROBIC METABOLISM SHORT BURST OF ENERGY TYRE UP QUICKLY REACTS QUICKLY

SLOW TWITCH

USES OXIGEN CONTINOUS ENERGY HIGH ENDURANCE REACTS SLOWLY

VS

CONCENTRICCONTACTION

Is characterized by muscle shortening under load. For example, when you perform a Bicep Curl during the flexion phase, your bicep is contracted and shortened under load.

ECCENTRIC CONTRACTION

Is the opposite of concentric muscle contraction, meaning the muscle is lengthened under load.

ISOMETRIC CONTRACTION

Isometric muscle contractions occur when there is no change in muscle length during contraction, where the muscles stabilize the body without visible movement.

TENDONS

Connect muscle to bone

FASCIA
