Research Project
Bibliography: A list of the books, sites and articles that have been used and quoted for a research work or book, a school presentation etc. Sitography : Same list but only for websites
An example of a French APA Bibliography
Various types- styles of bibliography are possible: - APA (American Psychological Association) - MLA (Modern Language Association) - ISO 690 (International Organization for Standardization) - Chicago style
An example of a French ISO 690 Bibliography
- There isn't a universal bibliographic style. The style is defined by the disciplines, the countries and the universities - A bibliography's aim is to show that our work is included in a global and specific research. Each source we quote is part of the bibliography.
The ISO-690 style was created to normalize every bibliography in the world thanks to the International Organization for Standardization. The ISO also created the ISBN (international book number, the book's identity)
How do I write a bibliography? Collect this information for each website, article or book: - Author's name. - Title of the publication (and the title of the article if it's a magazine or an encyclopedia) - Date of publication (and if it is an article or a website, the date of consultation) - The place of publication of a book. - The publishing company of a book. - The volume number of a magazine or printed encyclopedia. - The number of pages - The URL (Uniform Resource Locator) or the DOI (Digital Object Identifier)
By what means? - By hand - With e-sidoc, the CDI's search engine - With word processors - With the device Zoterobib
Wikipedia isn't a source. It is a free encyclopedia which summarizes research works or media articles. The authors are contibutors, random people like you and me who follow Wikipedia's rules. At the end of each article in Wikipedia, there is a bibliography for the subject ! If you have to do a presentation, even if you use Wikipedia, be sure to check the bibliography.
Libraries in Anglo-saxon countries (and in France ) are organized with the DDC (Dewey Decimal System)
Books are classified by disciplines and subjects .Call number ("cote" in French) Ex : 900 History and geography940 History of Europe 941 History of British Isles 941.08 from Victoria to now 941.086 British Isles from 2000s to now But also 941.1 Scotland 942 England and Wales A bit messy and an oriented classification ?
