Overview

Gamification

Gamification enhances student learning by incorporating game elements like receiving points, badges and leaderboards. This makes the learning more fun, engaging and motivating for students. It takes traditional, boring courses, to a new level of interactivity and excitement.

Examples: Blooket, Kahoot, Quizziz

+ info

Podcasting

Podcasting allows teachers to share engaging content with students that they can listen to anytime or anywhere. Podcasting can also be used by students to enhance their learning. Many educational institutions found that podcasting enhances student engagement and teaching practices.

Examples: Creating an "about me" podcast, sharing about an event in history, alternative to writing a paper about global warming and it's effects.

+ info

Blended Learning

Blended learning is an approach to teaching that combines traditional classroom methods with technology and online learning. Using an LMS can enable teachers to manage and send out digital learning experiences with ease. Blended learning allows teachers to differentiate student's learning and provide more meaningful learning experiences for each unique student.

Examples: Students working in stations, some digital and some paper/hands-on.

1:1 Devices

1:1 devices is the idea that each student is provided with a device. Not all students have access to technology at home. This helps bridge the gap between students having and not having access. 1:1 devices allow students to engage in new and exciting ways and collaborate with each other.

Examples: iPads, Chromebooks, Macbooks, etc.

+ info

Online Collaboration

Students can collaborate online using a variety of tools and methods. Having these asynchronous online discussions can benefit students and teachers in many ways. This allows for each student to share their thoughts, learn from others, and be heard by many. Having each student share their thoughts is not always possible, this gives them an outlet to do so.

Examples: Google Slides, Discussion boards, Canva.

+ info

Flipped classroom

A flipped classroom allows for students to get more one on one help in the classroom. Teachers can be in two places at once, teaching each student through a video, and assisting other students in person. Each student learns at their own pace, and flipped classroom learning ensures that is possible.

Examples: Flipped Grid, Google Classroom, Current LMS.

+ info

Sorting/Sharing resources

Keeping a physical copy of every resource wastes space and time. Using virtual "filing cabinets" saves not only paper but also time as teachers try to find old resources. These online tools also allow for easy sharing when teachers collaborate with their colleagues.

Examples: Google Drive, Pinterest

+ info

Video Based Learning

Video-Based Learning involves using videos to teach students a concept. This approach allows students to pause, rewind, and fast forward to personalize their learning experience. Teachers don't need to recreate the wheel when a video can enhance a student's understanding of a concept.

Example: Watching and responding to a video, BrainPOP/Jr, Loom.

Interactive Technology

Interactive technology like whiteboards allows teachers and students to be flexible with their learning. They increase motivation, engagement, and creativity in the classroom. They also accommodate the unique learning styles of all of your students.

Examples: Using Smartboards for students to physically interact with the material on the board.

Virtual Reality

Virtual reality allows students to experience things they usually wouldn't in the walls of a classroom. Students can experience different cultures, a moment in history, etc. It helps students develop soft skills and STEM.

Example: Going to a place they may never get the chance to go to. Learning about a place far from home.

Discussion

With someone near you:

What are the key benefits of blended learning and how can we use it to enhance student engagement?

How can the use of 1:1 devices enhance a students learning and use of technology?

How do you think the use of gamification in education can motivate students and influence learning outcomes?

How can technology facilitate collaboration and communication between students?

Thank you!

Thank you for your effort in enhancing our students learning and keeping them motivated in the classroom! Technology is a small, but sure way to ensure that students get the differentiated and exciting learning they crave and deserve!
