BLACK FRIDAY HISTORY

The name "Black Friday" became popular in the 1960s in Philadelphia. The streets were full of cars and people, and the city was very crowded. The police called it "Black Friday" because it was hard to control the traffic and crowds.

HISTORY OF BLACK FRIDAY

Some people say "Black" refers to stores making a lot of money because they move from being: "in the red" (losing money) to "in the black" (making a profit).

What is consumerism?

Consumerism means buying and using many products and services. It is the idea that having more things can make people happy. Sometimes, it is good because it helps businesses and the economy grow. But it can also be bad if people buy things they don’t need or if it creates too much waste and pollution. For example:

  • Buying new clothes every month because it’s fun is consumerism.
  • Using what you already have instead of buying new things is not consumerism.

Purple Tuesday

On Purple Tuesday, everyone wears purple clothes. People give purple flowers to friends to show they care. Shops sell purple candy, balloons, and toys. At night, there is a big parade with purple lights and music. It’s a day to celebrate FRIENDSHIP and to make people feel happy and loved.

Golden Sunday

Golden Sunday is a day to celebrate GENEROSITY. On this day, people wear golden accessories like ribbons or bracelets. Shops offer discounts on items that can be donated, like clothes and food. Communities organize events where people help others, such as cooking for those in need or visiting the elderly. It’s a day to celebrate GOLDEN HEARTS.
