What is Thanksgiving?

• Thanksgiving is a U.S. holiday celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November.
• Originates from a 1621 harvest feast shared by Pilgrims and Native Americans.

Historical Background

• The Pilgrims arrived in Plymouth Rock in 1620.
• The first Thanksgiving:

A three-day feast with the Wampanoag tribe.

• It became an official U.S. holiday in 1863, proclaimed by President Abraham Lincoln.

Modern Traditions

• Families and friends gather for a large meal
• Eat a lottttttttttt of food!
• Watching football games and parades, like the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the National Dog Show are common Thanksgiving traditions.
