What is Thanksgiving?
- Thanksgiving is a U.S. holiday celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November.
- Originates from a 1621 harvest feast shared by Pilgrims and Native Americans.
Historical Background
- The Pilgrims arrived in Plymouth Rock in 1620.
- The first Thanksgiving:
- It became an official U.S. holiday in 1863, proclaimed by President Abraham Lincoln.
Modern Traditions
- Families and friends gather for a large meal
- Eat a lottttttttttt of food!
- Watching football games and parades, like the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the National Dog Show are common Thanksgiving traditions.
