The tradition of leaving out mince pies or cookies for Santa and of course a carrot for the reindeers dates back to the 19th century. The oie was originally made with minced meat, and over time, it became the sweet version filled with dried fruit and spices. Christmas traditions vary from country to country of course, but univeraslly marked by excitment, anticipation and togetherness.

Hannukkah is an eight day Jewish destival that usuaully falls in December but the dates vary each year because the Jewish calendar is lunisolar. Lighting the Menorah is the biggest tradition. One additional candle is lit, beginning with one on the first night, until all eight candles are lit on the final night.

Gift giving is a mjor part of Christmas celebrations among family and friends. This tradition stems from the Biblical stroy of the Three Wise Men who brought gifts to Jesus. Christmas dinner is also an essential part of Christmas Day. This could include roast turkey, ham, stuffing with mince pies and Christmas Pudding for dessert.
