How did it all begin?
The first Thanksgiving celebration dates back to 1621 in Plymouth, Massachusetts, when the Pilgrims, a group of English separatists seeking religious freedom, celebrated their first harvest with the help of local Native American tribes. The most well known is the Wampanoag tribe. It was the Wampanoag people who taught them how to cultivate the land to survive the winter.
What is the meaning of this holiday?
Gratitude: It is a time to reflect on the things we are grateful for, such as family, friends, health and opportunities.
Family Reunion: It is one of the most important holidays for families, who come together to share a meal and spend time together. Reflection and Solidarity: Many people use this day to reflect on their lives and to help those less fortunate by participating in charity work and volunteering.
WHY ARE THANKSGIVING DAY AND BLACK FRIDAY NEAR?
The proximity of Thanksgiving and Black Friday is due to both historical traditions and commercial strategies. Business Tradition: In the 1950s and 1960s, the term "Black Friday" was coined in Philadelphia to describe the pedestrian and automobile traffic chaos that occurred the day after Thanksgiving. In the 1980s, traders began using the term to refer to when their accounts went from "red" (losses) to "black" (profits) due to increased sales. Start of the Holiday Shopping Season: Black Friday has become known as the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season. Many stores offer significant discounts and special promotions to attract customers.
Traditions:
These are the top 10 activities for Thanksgiving Day in the US: Watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Break the wishbone for good luck. Eat a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Take a nap. Share what you're most thankful for. Watch an American football game. Be grateful for Friendsgiving. Run a turkey trot.
