The main environmental challenges cities face are:
The high consumption of resources, such as building materials, food and energy also contributes to harm the urban environment
Air Pollution: caused by traffic, industry and heating. These emissions affect humans, plants and historical buildings. Water pollution: caused by waste. This makes it more difficutl to supply clean water to homes. Noise pollution: caused by many traffic, but also by construction and industry.
- Waste:
- Produced mainly by households.
- It´s usually burned in incinerators, which causes groundwater pollution.
- Waste also requires and extensive sewage network.
