Urban problems and challenges
Despite the advantages of living in a city, there are some problems and challenges that inhabitants and government face.
- Include: preventing and reducing social exclusion
- Cities are home to many legal and illegal inmigrants who move there in search of a better quality of life
Social challenge
The growth of an urban population can lead to:
Health centres, Schools and sports centres
Problems with the supply of energy and food
Lack of basic social services
A rise in crime rates
Compromise the safety of urban inhabitants
Governments need to address these problems
Between them
Children and young people are vulnerable to this situations
Cities:
Also create pollution and have contributed to the climate crisis because of their constant expansion and use of natural resources.

Waste
The main environmental challenges cities face are:
- Waste:
- Produced mainly by households.
- It´s usually burned in incinerators, which causes groundwater pollution.
- Waste also requires and extensive sewage network.
Air Pollution: caused by traffic, industry and heating. These emissions affect humans, plants and historical buildings. Water pollution: caused by waste. This makes it more difficutl to supply clean water to homes. Noise pollution: caused by many traffic, but also by construction and industry.
The high consumption of resources, such as building materials, food and energy also contributes to harm the urban environment
