Factors like heavy rainfall, coastal storm surge, or rising groundwater increase the likelyhood of intense flooding in the Miami area.

Potential Flooding

Temperature Increase

With the increased green house gases continuing to accumulate in the atmosphere, Miami is experiecing higher average temperatures. Miami experiences 25 dangerous heat days per year, and could be 100 days by 2050. These conditions can be deadly for poeple, plants, and animals alike.

The UK and in London is experincing nearl identical effects on thier city. "United Kingdom Climate Projections (UKCP09), the city is facing hotter, drier summers and warmer winters with increased precipitation. The city is also facing more extreme weather events including increased flooding from storms and more frequent heat waves."

Measures Taken

To prolong the disastrous effects of flooding in Miami, new building code and preventative measures are being put in use. Building codes state that any new developments must be made at least 13 feet higher than before. Some particularly endangered areas like Sunset harbor have raised the streets of the city, to combat the rising ocean; this city in particular ended their street raising process 2 feet higher than it began.
