Each of these three theories' major focus is on creating student-centered learning that emphasizes problem-solving, critical-thinking mastery. This combination sets a solid foundation in preparing students to be college and career ready.
Similarities
Constructivist Theory focuses on tackling real world challenges through problem-solving, critical thinking, collaboration and teamwork (Hungerford-Kressler et al, 2022) Transformative Learning focuses on individual growth by reshaping assumptions through critical reflection (Martin, n.d.), and incorporating cultural influences (Solloway, 2021)
Constructivist/Transformative Theories
The theory focuses on how to house as much as possible in your working memory and transferring that information to long-term memory (Sweller, 2020). It emphasizes instructional design and comprehension in learning, which leads to better retention of learning (Verhoeven & Graesser, 2008)
Cognitive Load Theory
When we are told a story, it excites us, it can even move us, making us remember the stories up to 20 times more than any other content wemay consume.
