Buddhism

Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment

Buddhism is a non-theistic religion and philosophical tradition that originated in India over 2,500 years ago. It's based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, also known as the Buddha, and is considered one of the world's major religions.

What is buddhism?

Buddhism focuses on personal spiritual development and the pursuit of enlightenment, or nirvana. Buddhists believe that life is full of suffering and impermanence, and that the cycle of death and rebirth can only be ended by eliminating greed, hatred, and ignorance. The path to enlightenment is through morality, meditation, and wisdom, and is guided by the Eightfold Path.

Taoism

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step

Taoism is a Chinese philosophy and religion that originated around 2,500 years ago and is based on the idea of living in harmony with the Tao, or the natural flow of the universe

What is taoism

Taoists meditate, make offerings, and perform other rituals at temples and monasteries. They may also practice hygiene practices, such as avoiding meat, wine, and the five grains, and replacing them with fruits, berries, and roots and tubers.

Practices

Taoism emphasizes living in harmony with the Tao, a mysterious principle that is the source of the universe. Taoists believe that all living things should live in harmony with the universe and the energy found in it, known as ch'i. Taoists also believe in balancing the forces of yin and yang, which represent matching pairs like light and dark, hot and cold, and action and inaction.

Beliefs

Taoism became well-known in the eighth century C.E. as the religion of the Tang dynasty.

History

Taoism encourages a positive, active attitude toward the occult and the metaphysical. It also encourages passivity, calmness, and non-strife.
