Other countries facing similar climate change are Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Jordan and Iraq, all located within the same region along North Africa and the Middle East.
Egypt contributes significantly to the rest of North Africa in terms of exports as it contains some of the most fertile land in the region. On a global scale, Egypt alone contributed 40% of all food production to the Arab World.

A Fertile Land
The Nile River provides Egypt with most of its water supply, making it the central location for agriculture. Climate change is making it harder for the land to sustain the evergrowing population. Temperatures are expected to rise by 4o C by the end of the century. Compounded with the unpredictable rainfall, Egypt is facing extreme dangers to human, animal and plant mortality. Furthermore, Egypt is seeing increased water levels due to residing along the mediterranean coast, resulting in severe flooding in major cities.

Egypt has taken proactive action early on to mitigate most of the problems it will face down the road. Leading climate experts and engineers have implemented new changes to combat the rising sea levels and pollution levels that are contributing to rising temperatures.
There Is Hope
- Seawalls have been constructed to reduce flooding.
- Egypt is aiming to replace most of its public transport with electric buses.
- Egypt's government leaders have sought out mutual agreements with other countries, such as the Republic of Congo, to provide each other with abundant resources that the other lacks, particularly rice and wheat for Egypt.

By 2030, Egypt plans on increasing its freshwater import to the point it will surpass the amount it sources from the Nile.
