  • SEASONS: In autumn, in winter.
  • YEARS: in 2020, in 1985, in 2010.
  • CENTURIES: in the 20th century.
  • *TIMES OF THE DAY: in the morning, in the evening, in the afternoon.
  • LONG PERIODS OF TIME: in the past, in the 1980s, in the holidays.
  • Days of the week: On tuesday, on saturday, on monday.
  • Day + part of the day: on Wednesday evening, on tuesday morning,
  • Dates: On November 12.
  • Special days: on my birthday, on New Year's eve.
  • Clock Time: at 2:00pm, at 3:00am.
  • Holidays: At Christmas, at Easter.
  • Mealtimes: at breakfast time, at lunch time, at dinner time.
  • Exception: at night, at midnight.

Time expression that don't need any preposition

  • next week, year, month etc.
  • last night, year etc.
  • this morning, month etc.
  • every day, night, year etc.
  • today, tomorrow, yesterday.

Examples

  • My vacation ends on Monday.
  • My brother John was born on September 3rd.
  • We always have a huge celebration on New Year’s Eve.
  • The weather is very cold here at Christmas.
  • She's a nurse and she works at night.
  • She doesn't like to leave the office at lunchtime.
