The Top 9 Climate Hypocrites. (n.d.). C3. https://c3newsmag.com/the-top-9-climate-hypocrites/ The Guardian. (n.d.). Starbucks is banning straws – but is it really a big win for the environment? Retrieved July 23, 2023, from https://www.theguardian.com/business/2018/jul/23/starbucks-straws-ban-2020-environment
"It is hard to gauge exactly how much Starbucks’s decision to increase its use of plastic, but eliminate plastic straws, will help the environment. To some extent the move to Nitro lids feels like a way to channel some easy PR from the growing anti-straw movement, rather than a meaningful sustainability initiative."
"The Avengers and Spotlight star has called climate change the “biggest story of our time,” but led the charge to shut down the Indian Point nuclear power plant in New York. The carbon-free electricity that the nuclear plant generated was lost, leading to an immediate 37% uptick in emissions in the Empire State. "

"Environmentalists have long raised worries about the train’s construction, which cuts through some of the world’s most unique ecosystems, including thousands of subterranean caves carved by water in the region’s soft limestone bedrock over millions of years."

"Many fast fashion retailers like H&M and Forever 21 receive new clothes shipments every day. These brands are able to sell a huge amount of clothing and at extremely low prices by contracting with suppliers in underdeveloped nations. These businesses subsequently contract out the production to unregistered vendors that do not have to abide by any laws. In other words, there is no requirement for these brands to provide safe working conditions to these workers. "

Sweatshops
"Worldwide 80 billion pieces of clothing are consumed every year, a 400% increase from only twenty years ago. However, approximately 85% of these textiles end up in a landfill every year. This is an indicator of the mass demand from consumers and rapid turnover in trends that is occuring. In 2014 the average person bought 60% more clothing than in the year 2000, however, they kept each item of clothing only half as long."

"Despite common belief, green buildings are only about 2% more expensive to construct. When lifecycle costs are considered, the cost of sustainable construction is less, with an average of 14% to 19% in operational savings. This demonstrates that green building cost savings can be significant over time."

Choice Dilemma
"Many entrepreneurs, as well as many architects, have realized that marketing around the sustainability theme could bring gains and profits to the profession and that certain "green" parameters and discourses could guide, attract, and please their consumers. But often, more than in-depth studies and measures aligned with local contexts and environmentally more coherent thinking, these initiatives only appear to be more responsible when, in fact, they are superficial, controversial, or misleading."

Preventio
1. We need to be informed so that companies stop making a fool out of us and start taking the accountability they should and actually do commit to helping our earth. 2. Becoming part of the solution is the most important thing because if we do not do anything then no one will do this for us 3. Becoming aware of our actions will stop ourselfs from becoming hypocrits and start taking responsability of whatt we are doing to our earth because of our lazyness.
Hypocrisy
Hypocrisy when facing climate change is a topic that we are seeing a lot. Just like the marvel star I also find myself wanting for things to change in order for the climate to get better, but, I don't do anything about it and only contribute to the problem. :
Being Gullable
Some years back the ban straws movement became very popular. So Starbucks decided to remove all of their plastic straws for strawless lids. whoich ended up using more plastic, but people didn't know that and trusted the company , so it is very important we do not become gullable and actually be informed so that companies are not able to be greenwashing and us not do anything.
Prevention
These all solutions complement each other. First it is known that politiacians tend to lie for their personal gain so when there are topics like these one we need to do our own research and not trust their words and look at the facts that will uncover the truth of what they want to do. Also, making the government listen to the citizens they will notics the distress people have and acct upon that since they don't want everyone to be anrgy at them
Governmental Decisions
Mexico's past president AMLO created the "Tren Maya" a train that was going to provide land transport in certain parts of the country, but, during constructions it came ouf that they were completely destroying the ecosystems and how it became a genocide agaisnt nature. He had said this was not going to happen but it turned out to be a big lie.
Solutions
When we stop buying from companies they get the point that they are doing something incorrectly so if we don't buy and we promote change they will be forced to stop their ways and we will help their workers be able to have a better wage and better working conditions. Also, their products will become better and will be able to last a longer time and the landfills won't be full of clothing that was just made. Also when putting values over money people will stop buying form these companies that are not taking care of the enviorment and we will buy from companies that do causing for companies to change to going towards being more green.
Fast Fashion
Fast Fashion is one of the greatest harmful attitudes that impact the earth on a yearly basis. Each day thousands of people go out to buy new cheap clothing that does not have a lot of longevity. So they throw them away and buy new ones. The only thing this causes is for a lot of trash to be produced. People become very hippocrite when buying this type of clothing since they want cheap clothing but don't want to harm the earth.
Prevention Strategies
Iarchitects have the power to decide how the project will be made, so it is important for them tu put their values over money so that thye take care and become ware the damage that their porject will do to climate change and try to atleast change some things in order to mitihate these effects. Also, flexibility is important since there are some parts that can be changed for example use some ecofriendly materials and in another space take the cost down so that the investing amount doesn't continue growing and the project can be green. Finally, becoming part of the solution and becoming an example will inspire other architects to also implement green strategies to their porject and help combat climate change.
Falacies
In the world of architecture many people want for constructions to have a greener approach and the designs as well. Because of this many architects are selling the falacy that by having a bit of green spaces the construction part did not impact climate change as harshly. But, it turns out the effect is the same. People are being decieved by lies for the profit of companies and people far for it since they are not familiar with the topics.
Choice Dilemma
Recently more ecofriendly materials have been introduced for constructions and architects now have the options to use them. But, there is a dilemma in whether to use them or not because at the end of the day it is a buisness and buisnesses are always looking for profit maximization. Although 2% does not seem as much a company will rather have that extra 2% than lose it.
Sweatshops
Fast Fashion companies everyday get new products so they have be able to have a cheap production line to do all the work. These are known as sweatshops in which people are put in very bad quality of work area with very little pay to produce a big amount of clothing per day. We as consumers are allowing this by continue to buying these cheap clothing causing for the earth to get worse by the day.
