Tool/Strategy Chosen: Pear Deck
Pear Deck is an interactive presentation tool that is integrated with Google Slides and Microsoft PowerPoint, and allows for real-time student responses in order to increase engagement. Through Pear Deck, there are a variety of features designed to make learning fun for students including: - Open-ended questions - Multiple-choice polls - Draw and drag-and-drop activities - Anonymous student participation, reducing fear of judgment And so much more!

Research Highlights
How can active learning be incorporated into the classroom?
Multimedia Learning
Acording to a report from Bonwell and Eison, active learning in the classroom can increase engagement by students, and one way to do this through "the modification of traditional lectures (Bonwell & Eison, 1991, p.7)". Pear Deck is an awesome tool to modify traditional lectures and make them less boring and more interactive.
Through much research, studies (e.g., Mayer, 2020) have shown that ed-tech tools like Pear Deck can increase classroom engagement by up to 75% when used effectively. My focus for this session will be to help my mentee boost their studnet engagement through ed-tech tools to try and see a change in class participation.
