1. What it is?
1.What is technology in teaching
Well technology in teaching is the innovative use of technology to improve and transform the teaching and learning process, it is a model of interaction between teachers and students who use applications, devices and other tools technologies in the learning process.
2.
Advantages
Improves concentration and understanding.
The activities carried out through digital and interactive tools increase the student's concentration and, therefore, they assimilate the concepts more quickly, enhancing learning. These types of tools involve students in more practical learning, with the aim of reinforcing what they have learned.
Promotes critical reasoning.
The various sources of information provided by technologies provide new points of view to students. In this way, information and communication technologies encourage debate and acceptance of other people's opinions. Furthermore, the exchange of thoughts allows the student to learn about different cultures.
Streamlines communication between teachers and students.
The entire educational community has quick access to the same resources. In this way, digital tools allow direct and immediate interaction, without the need to be physically present. This was especially important during the confinement experienced during the 2020 health crisis.
Promotes flexibility and autonomy of students.
New technologies promote autonomous learning of students. With the incorporation of digital alternatives such as online courses, each student can learn at their own pace, optimizing time and resources thanks to the flexibility provided by digitalization and connectivity.
Stimulates motivation.
The incorporation of technologies in the classroom improves student motivation; it is a quick and practical technique to stimulate the study of new concepts. Digital tools are the daily communication support of the new generations, therefore, they are easily handled in this environment.
3.
Disadvantages
Reduces the development of other skills.
Practices such as writing, public speaking, and reasoning can be nullified by the widespread adoption of digitalization in academic centers. This has been demonstrated in a recent study carried out by the University of California. The report details that the social skills of the new generations are based on the digital environment, therefore, direct personal communication may be affected.
Consumption of false information.
Much information available on the internet is false or incomplete. This fact directly influences the media literacy of students, especially in the educational stage corresponding to ESO, since half do not know how to detect fake news.
Distractions and lack of attention.
Digitization means opening access without limitations to multiple resources and sources of information, such as web pages, social networks or chats and, therefore, eliminating attention from the subject matter.
Reduce human contact.
With the incorporation of new technologies, the learning process becomes more distant and the physical relationship with teachers and classmates decreases. As a consequence, as human contact decreases, isolation can appear and represent an obstacle to the personal development of students.
Amplifies bullying.
A complex issue to deal with and one of the biggest risks is bullying. The lack of physical contact can lead to a loss of assertiveness and misuse of online tools and platforms, which can lead to situations of digital harassment.
4.Conclusion
'In conclusion, we could say that technology in learning has clear benefits but not everything is so good. Excessive access to it causes problems in long-term learning, so we have to take this calmly and use it but in the right amount since It is a very good work tool for both the student and the teacher, but we also have to keep in mind that anything in excess is bad.
