In seguito alle leggi razziali del 1938, Rita Levi-Montalcini, in quanto ebrea, fu costretta a emigrare nel marzo del 1939 in Belgio, dove si trovavano già il suo maestro Giuseppe Levi e la sorella Anna insieme alla famiglia. Riuscì a sopravvivere all'olocausto nascosta a Firenze cambiando molte case. Nel 1946 andò a Saint Louis (missouri) a proseguire le sue ricerche. Rimase negli USA fino al 1977 Dal 1989 al 1995 lavorò presso l'istituto di Neurologia del CNR (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche).

Rita Levi-Montalcini è stata una neurologa e senatrice a vita italiana. Nel 1986 è stata la prima donna a vincere il premio nobel per la scoperta del fattore di crescita nervoso. Nasce a Torino il 22 aprile 1909 e muore a Roma il 30 dicembre 2012 all'età di 103 anni. Nasce da una famiglia ebrea da padre ingegnere e madre pittrice. Nel 1930 decide di andare a studiare medicina all'Università Degli Studi Di Torino. Scelse medicina perchè in quell'anno morì di cancro la sua governante Giovanna Bruatto. Nel 1936 si laureò in medicina con 110 e lode.

BIOGRAFIA

Rita venne nominata senatrice a vita nel 2001 e divenne socia dell'Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Le è stato dedicato un asteroide, che ha preso il nome di:Asteroide 9722 Levi-Montalcini. Grazie all'NGF ha vinto il premi nobel per la medicina nel 1986. Nel 1963 fu la prima donna scienziata a ricevere il Premio Max Weinstein. E nel 2024 è stata emessa una moneta da 2 euro che la raffigura.

Riconoscimenti

Rita fece molte scoperte e la più importante fù: Il Never Growth Factor Grazie alla scoperta dell'NGF cominciarono gli studi per la cura di malattie come l'alzhaimer e la SLA (sclerosi laterale amiotrofica). Inoltre,nel 2012,l'Associazione EBRI fondata da Rita brevettò una variante dell'NGF maggiormente tollerata dall'organismo umano L'NGF è una proteina che regola la crescita dei neuroni lungo la quale viene trasmesso l'impulso elettrico nervoso.
