La vita:
Nel 1615 Galilei fu denunciato dai Domenicani all’Inquisizione per la sua teoria eliocentrica, condannata per la sua incompatibilità coi dettami della Chiesa.
Galileo Galilei nacque a Pisa nel 1564 da una nobile famiglia fiorentina. Si dedicò agli studi scientifici, alla matematica.
Nel 1615 Galilei fu denunciato dai Domenicani all’Inquisizione per la sua teoria eliocentrica, condannata per la sua incompatibilità coi dettami della Chiesa.
I suoi studi portarono presto all’ampliamento delle conoscenze sull’Universo. Questo aprì il conflitto con la Chiesa, preoccupata delle ripercussioni che potevano avere queste scoperte.

Il Museo Galileo di Firenze raccoglie i più preziosi strumenti scientifici provenienti dalle collezioni della dinastia Medicea e dei granduchi Lorenesi. Fu fondato nel 1930, con sede a Palazzo Castellani.
