Syllabus -Welcome to Algebra 2. This is a year long class with an online instructor, Mrs. Ché, who will instruct and teach from zoom classrooms, create your assignments, answer questions, hold tutoring sessions, and grade all of the assignments. This class will be using the FISD Canvas platform. There will be zoom meetings for each lesson. In the zoom meeting you will meet with Mrs. Ché and your classmates face to face even though we are not in the same room. You must have your camera on. If you ever have issues with the Canvas platform or zoom please reach out to your instructor ASAP. Parents - Parents will also have access to the Canvas Algebra 2 Course class and will be able to see their students' grades, work submitted, and all lessons. Please set up your Canvas Observer account in order to have access to all the information. Supplies - Algebra 2 is an exciting course! Academic Agreement Purpose To create an environment that is supportive of all stakeholders in maintaining a high standard of positive behavior, communication, and work ethic. Teacher Commitments My teacher will help me to achieve success in this course through these actions/supports: Independent work opportunities, Collaborative work time, Authentic practice experiences, Assessments, Technology, Teacher supports Student Commitments Reassessment opportunities will be available to students who commit to active participation in this class. Reassessment is dependent on your authentic effort on previous assignments and assessments. All assignments, activities, and learning experiences, both graded and non-graded, must be completed to be eligible for reassessment. As a student, I am committing to: Completing independent classwork by the assignment deadline and communicating with the teacher when I need more support to accomplish the task(s) assigned; Being an active participant during class and collaboration with my peers; Completing assigned practice opportunities to support my mastery of skills and standards; demonstrating my knowledge during class assessments so that the teacher may develop strategies to support my learning when I do not understand a concept; advocating for myself by communicating my needs to my teacher for additional support when I do not understand, become frustrated, or have a challenge that may be interfering with my learning or active participation. Grading The goal for FISD’s assessment and grading process is to help ensure student mastery of the standards within the curriculum. Standards-based practices are a way of thinking about instruction, assessment, and grading that more clearly communicates how well students currently understand the grade-level standards or skills. The goal of standards-based practices is for students to take ownership of their learning. When students are involved in the learning process by knowing their strengths and where they need to improve, they can work with their teachers to set meaningful goals, strive to achieve the goals, and experience success.
Academic Agreement, continued Reassessment FISD+ staff members are committed to giving students credit for what they know. Reassessment allows teachers to have the most accurate data concerning mastery while building the student’s academic confidence through learning from their mistakes and engaging in targeted learning or practice. Students may be given an opportunity to reassess (up to 90%) a standard or skill that was not mastered if the following criteria are met: Notify teacher of intent to reassess by the deadline given in class; Demonstrate sufficient effort on the first assessment attempt; All Mandatory assignments (graded or not) MUST be completed for the standard assessed; Complete the reassessment assignment; Reassessment is completed on an agreed upon date prior to the end of the grading period; Students must make an authentic attempt to learn and complete assigned work, in and out of class. When students don’t complete assigned work, teachers will intervene. Teachers will contact parents and assign mandatory tutorials. Students will have one opportunity to show their growth on a graded assessment only if they have shown an authentic attempt to learn as evidenced by participation in class and completion of teacher assigned learning activities. Students who have not completed the required work, and as a result, have not received teacher feedback and intervention prior to a graded assessment will not have the opportunity to reassess. Academic Ethics & Plagiarism Any student who is caught cheating or plagiarizing will receive a phone call home, a meeting with the administrative team, and be documented in eSchool. Students will be allowed to resubmit on the first offense but may receive disciplinary action after the second offense.
