Audio

Audio can be added to your Genially creation in several ways. With a free account, you can upload audio files from a URL link. With a paid account, not only can you upload files from a link, but you can upload files from your device, record your own audio, and even use the AI voiceover feature to add accessibility to your creation.

How to:

• Click Insert from the left margin.
• Choose Audio at the top of the sidebar.
• Click Record Audio to record your own voice up to ten minutes.
• Click the dropdown arrow beside Upload Audio to create a voiceover using AI, upload an audio file from your device, or insert an audio file from a URL link.
• When using the Voiceover feature, you can paste your text into the box and the AI will read the message.
• To connect the audio file to an element on the screen, use the interactivity tool.

Don't you love a mystery? Hidden images (green #1) can be used to send the students on a mini scavenger hunt and reveal a little treasure.

How to:

• Add a text direction
• Choose the hidden item and place it first.
• Use the reveal feature to show this as the designated hidden item.
• Add items and stack them on top.
• Make all of the items draggable.

Click this box to access the completed Monopoly style game board with all of the sample questions, tools, and features.

The Coin Widget

There are three options for the coin widget (pink #2): heads or tails, thumbs up or down, trophy cup or skull.

How to:

• Click Widgets in the left margin.
• Choose Try your luck.
• Click the image of the coin to insert it on the page.

Directions for play are provided by Genially in every game template and are sometimes very helpful if you are unsure of how to use the template. However, changing the rules is very simple; just click on the question mark icon and edit the window to make all the necessary changes.

Why do people enjoy board games? For generations, families and friends have gathered together in friendly competition. People enjoy games for the laughter they bring, competition, strategy, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. Plus, they are interactive and engaging.

Interactivity

Interactivity is a distinctive feature that enhances the value of Genially. Nearly every element on the canvas can be linked to a window, tooltip, audio file, page, hyperlink, effect, full screen, reveal, or concealment. These interactive features can be combined, allowing for multiple actions to occur with individual elements.

How to edit an interaction:

• Choose the desired item.
• Choose the interactivity icon.
• Choose the desired interaction.
• To add additional interactions, click the icon again and add.

The Carousel Widget The carousel widget (green #2) showcases multiple images in a rotating manner, ideal for virtual field trips and collaborative exploration. It's also great for identifying notable individuals with flashcards, creating timelines, and facilitating discussions.

How to:

• Click widgets in the left margin.
• Choose Carousels
• Replace each image with your desired choice.

Images and Gifs enhance engagement by making games or presentations visually appealing, adding humor, and illustrating points dynamically, which makes information memorable and easier to grasp.

How to add images and gifs (green icons):

• Click Resources in the left margin
• Enter your search criteria (filter option - Transparent background only)
• You may also upload your own image
• Images may be cropped, flipped, and adjusted for size

Loading videos (blue #1) is really easy with Genially. Videos can be used for mini-tutorial lessons, songs, and so much more. Plus, the videos are embedded within the platform.

• How to:
• Locate the video you want to embed and copy the link.
• Click Insert in the left margin.
• Click Others in the menu at the top of the sidebar.
• Paste the link in the box.
• Click Insert.
• Videos may be set to auto play or loop. You may also choose the starting point in a video.

Animations

Genially animations provide on-screen movement for the entrance and exit of items as well as continuous animations to draw the eye. There are also interactive animations that occur when an item is hovered over or clicked. Some examples are focus, turn on, bounce, rotate, fade in, zoom, slide, swirl, and roll in.

How to edit an animation:

• Choose the desired item.
• Choose the animation icon.
• Choose the desired animation.
• Multiple animations can be added for the entrance, exit , and continuous/ongoing.
• Some animations can also be adjusted for time and speed.
• Your choices are automatically saved.

Rolling the Dice

Genially includes interactive dice on most of their board game templates. When you want to add dice to a question or to your own creation, there are five types from which to choose: standard (blue #3), colors (purple #1), directions (purple #2), operations (purple #3), and eight sides (pink #1).

How to:

• Choose Widgets from the left margin.
• Choose Try your luck.
• Click on the image of the standard die.
• Choose the type of die you wish to use.

Adding text to any Genially page is easy!

How to add text:

• Click Text in the left margin
• Choose your style and begin typing
• The toolbar across the top of the page contains all of the rich editing features

To Publish Your Genially 1. Click Present. 2. Choose Public or Private. 3. Toggle Reusable if desired. 4. Make sure the title is unique. 5. Add a description. 6. Click All Set!

Timer, Stopwatch, and Countdown Tools

The timer widget (pink #3) can be used to increase urgency and let students know how much time is allotted for an activity. The countdown widget (brown #1) can be used to alert students of the timer remaining in an event or in a calendar. The stopwatch (brown #2) tool may be useful for competition where students time themselves and try to decrease their time for various trials.

How to:

• Click Widgets in the left margin.
• Choose Time.
• Choose one of the options under either Timer, Stopwatch, or Countdown.
• Use the pencil icon to edit the timer and countdown tools.
• The stopwatch begins immediately, but may be paused or restarted.

Interactive Questions:

Questions are an essential component of any board game or quiz. Now, they are quick and easy to add to any window or page. The four free types are displayed around this window. Each one allows you to add content, provide feedback, set a timer, and differentiate the design.

How to:

• Click Interactive questions from the left margin
• Choose your question type
• Edit

What can I expect?

We will:

• introduce a variety of Genially question types, tools, and features;
• conduct a guided practice session for you to build and use the various components;
• provide a brief explanation and how-to for each one, as well as, a completed game board for you to see each of the tools and features in action;
• give some last minute reminders, take time for questions, and raffle off a one year Genially subscription worth $60.

The Reveal Tool The reveal tool (yellow #3) is a cool feature in presentations that lets you show info bit by bit. It helps keep the audience focused on what you want to highlight, making it easier for them to understand and stay engaged.

How to:

• First, add all of the content (question, answer, image, etc.)
• Choose the item you want to trigger the reveal tool.
• Click the interactivity icon.
• Click the item you want to be revealed.

Effects!

Special effects (blue #2) in presentations enhance engagement, increase visual interest, capture the participants' attention, add excitement, and provide immediate feedback.

How to:

• Choose the element you want to trigger the desired effect.
• Click the interactivity icon.
• Choose Effects.
• Select the desired effect.
• Click Save.

Although Genially has always contained a variety of game-based templates, recently it has been rebranded with a greater emphasis on interactivity, puzzles, and play!

Draggable pieces (player pieces, houses, and orange #1) are utilized during gameplay to facilitate the movement of items that would otherwise remain static. This functionality is particularly effective for tasks such as arranging images in a specific order or maneuvering player pieces.

How to:

• Highlight the item you wish to remain moveable in presentation mode

• Click this icon

• The icon will turn purple to notate if an item is draggable

• If you wish to have the item remain in place, repeat the process
