Why is it called “Gregorian Chant”?
The name of Gregorian chant comes from its attribution to Pope Saint Gregory I the Great (died in 604), which is a simplification of historical reality, but not lacking in some foundation, since that pontiff had to play a transcendent role in its coinage.
