What is fast fashion?
Fast fashion is a business model in the textile and fashion industry characterized by the rapid production of large quantities of low-cost clothing that mimics the latest runway trends. The main goal of fast fashion is to make clothing available to the public quickly, reflecting seasonal trends, and at affordable prices.
-Fish and amphibians: Rivers in countries like Bangladesh and China, heavily involved in textile production, are polluted with dyes and toxic chemicals, leading to the death of fish and disrupted reproduction in amphibians.-Land animals: Deer, foxes, and birds often ingest discarded clothing at landfills, mistaking it for food. This can result in choking, blockages, or fatal illnesses.
-Sea turtles: Sea turtles have been found entangled in textile waste, such as discarded fabrics and plastic threads. Microplastics released from synthetic fabrics like polyester are consumed by marine animals, causing internal damage and death.-Seabirds: Species like albatrosses often ingest floating fragments of discarded clothing, mistaking them for food, leading to intestinal blockages and starvation.
