King John was the youngest son of King Henry the Plantagenous, he was crowned king the 27th May 1199. He was an unpopular king because he had to pay a tribute to the Church and the barons didn't want to collaborate..So in 15 years he lost almost all his father's lands in France and made the barons angry.

Later the Charter of Libery better know as the Great Charter, in latin Magna carta , entered into the statuterolls as part of the english law, that meant that if the king wanted to change it , he had to get it approved by the Parlament

In this costitution the King had to assure the Barons demands. During the years, the Charter know as the Charter of Liberty had a second part know as the Charter of the Forest .
There're four copys , two preserved in the British Library, one at Lincoln Castle and one in Salisbury Cathedral.
