Hawaii is a group of eight islands in the Pacific Ocean. Hawaii became an American state on August 21st, 1959 and it was the last state to join the union. Hawaii is also the name of the largest island. It is the only state made only of islands. It is the only state located outside North America and the only state in the tropics. The capital and largest city of Hawaii is Honolulu on the island named Oahu. It is called Aloha State. The former President of the USA, Barack Obama, is from Honolulu.

San Francisco was founded in 1776 by the Spanish conquerors. It was called "Yerba Buena" which is Spanish for "Good Herb", because mint grew there in abundance.After the Mexican-American War, Yerba Buena was taken over by the United States. In 1848 it was renamed "San Francisco" and became a city in 1850. San Francisco has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate.It is famous for the Golden Gate Bridge.

Alaska is a very big state North West of Canada. Alaska is the biggest state in the United States. It is also the most northern state. The United States bought Alaska from Russia on March 30th, 1867. This was called the Alaska Purchase. It entered the union in 1959, before Hawaii. It is called "the last frontier". The capital city is Juneau, but the biggest city is Anchorage. Alaska has many glaciers. It is a popular tourist destination, as there is a very rich culture along with beautiful scenery. There are many wild animals in Alaska. Some of them are the brown bear, the moose, and the wolf. There are some important industries in Alaska, like oil, fishing, mining, and forestry.

New Orleans is the largest city in the state of Louisiana. The city was first built by the French before it became a territory of the United States when President Thomas Jefferson bought it in 1803.It was built at the mouth of the Mississippi River. It has been one of the World's greatest seaport cities for many years.The famous Battle of New Orleans was fought here in 1815.On August 29th, 2005, New Orleans was hit by Hurricane Katrina which destroyed over 80% of the city.
