The text is an excerpt from the book "Calexico: True Lives of the Borderlands" by Peter Loufer. It describes the town of Calexico, located on the border between the USA and the Mexico. The author recalls his childhood in San Diego and the trips he took with his mother to Calexico and northern Boja California. It highlights the contrast and poetry of this region where the desert runs shoulders with agriculture and canals.He also talks about the fascination he felt for the names Calexico and Mexicali, which he found magical. For him, this region is a unique place, both american and mexican where the two cultures meet and mix.

Trump and the border

Firstly, Calexico is a border between Mexico and California. However, there are issues related to this border as;

• deporting people at a large scale
• build up new detentios ( expanding detention)
• a lack of money and detention capacities
• removal of undocumented immigrants
• revoking protections for migrants
• immigrants policies come back

We see that the Mexican people and USA citizens with Mexican origins have different opinions.

There is more that 40 000 résidents who cross the US Mexico border, and also a millions of pedestrian. This border helpt to the economy thanks for the commercial moving daily for Mexicali and california. Then contrary to what we think there is no rivality between the cities. Now the border is increase for the new generation and unfortunatly this make some distance. Hitting Record high at the end of 2023 of the number of migrants who tryning to cross the frontline is upgrading so the policy changes on both sides of the border. Mexican authorities have increased efforts to prevent migrants from reaching the U.S.

a bordeless comunity

People who live along the border ,on both sides,are different.They do not have the same culture,the same history,the same languages or the beliefs but they are united as a people.they live as a "thind nation",they are connected,not divided. They even feel closer to each other than they do with citizen of their own country.They share a binational cultural and a prospereconomy.The wall between then has not created division but a kind of union.An artist from the border region decided to paint the wall blue so that it fades with the sky.It is a way to makeit disappear
