What's food waste?
-Food waste is food that, even if it is in perfect condition, is thrown away. Aesan.gob.es
Why did we choose food waste?
-We have chosen food waste because it is unfair that even if there are people who can't eat, so much food is thrown away.
Some facts about food waste
Breaking it down by food group, losses, and waste per year are roughly 30% for cereals, 40-50% for root crops and fruit and vegetables, 20% for oil seed and meat and dairy, and 35% for fish. -In Europe, 40-60% of fish caught are discarded because they do not meet supermarket quality standards. Earth.org
-The food currently wasted in Europe could feed 200 million people, in Latin America 300 million people, and in Africa 300 million people. -An area larger than China and 25% of the world’s freshwater supply is used to grow food that is never eaten.
What can you do?
-You can:-Adopt a healthier, more sustainable diet -Buy only what you need-Pick ugly fruit and vegetables (not all them are rotten) -Take smaller portions at home or share large dishes at restaurants. -If you don’t eat everything you make, freeze it for later or use the leftovers as an ingredient in another meal. Fao.org
RICE PUDDING
We are making a very delicious dish called rice pudding, because we have leftover rice that we ate yesterday along with some meatballs. Now, with this small gesture, we help a little to reduce food wasting.
ingredients
- Milk 3\4 L
- Sugar 8 big tablespoons
- Lemon 1 lemon peel
PREPARATION
1- We boil the milk with the lemon zest in a pot for 10 minutes. 2- After 10 minutes, add the rice to the pot. Keep it there for 5 minutes. 3- After 5 minutes, add the sugar to the pot. Stir it. 4- After stirping the mix, we remove the pot from the high heat and remove the lemon zest. We serve and... READY!

Now the dish is finished. We served in recicled plastic glasses that we bought 1 year ago for my birthday. And we added a mint leaf, too.
