Introduction
Engagement in e-learning is important for the success of the course. Without engagement students may have a harder time retaining information and applying that information to their work. If they are unable to apply their learning to their work the course will be unsuccessful.
Engagement: The interest, motivation, and participation that learners demonstarte when learning. Engagement is important because it helps the learners in the class learn more information and complete their class tasks successfully.
Background Information about engagement in e-learning
E-Learning: Also known as electronic learning is the ability to learn online using a variety of resources such as online course, virtual classrooms, and multimedia resources that could be accessible through computers, tablets, or phones.
- Social learning theory by Albert Bandura focuses on environmental and cognitive factors that contribute to learning.
- There are four factors that are cruicial for learning which is attention, retention, motr reproduction, and motivation (McLead, 2024).
- For e-learning attention is important and to gain attention is to engage the students in the learning using different teaching strategies.
- The Transactional Distance Theory is a theory by Michael Moore that examines different variables that are involved with distance learning. The different relationships that are explore are the learners, instructors, and the structure of the course.
- For learners autonomy is important in online learning espeically with the help of being engaged in learning.
- For instructors during a synchronous class online it is important that the instructors find ways to engage the students in learning so the students can learn and find motivation to learn (Chen, 2023).
