The red shoes have become a global symbol of the fight against gender violence. Mexican artist Elina Chauvet created the installation Zapatos Rojos in 2009 to remember the victims of feminicide and draw attention to this social emergency.

The first exposure took place in Ciudad Juárez, a city known for high rates of femicide. The empty red shoes represented missing or murdered women, leading the public to reflect on violence against women.
