Tres leches Cake

History of the Tres Leches cake
- The tres Leches cake is originally from Nicaragua
- The tres leches cake was created using the culinary technique of Medieval Britain, which involved soaking sweet cakes in some type of liquid. In the 17th century, when Britain colonized the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua, it brought with it its traditions.
- The original recipe evolved as there was the new creation of condense and evaporated milk
- in 1853 condense milk was discovered
- In 1885 evaporated milk hit the market
- Evaporated milk was brought to Nicaragua by U.S marines soldiers in 1909
- For a while only the upper class of Nicaragua could enjoy Tres leches cake, because condense and evaporated milk were only available to the upper class people
- Tres leches cake was popularized during the Great depression because it was when canned milk products became more accessible in Nicaragua
- This was possible because in 1603 the U.S signed an a trade agreement with Nicaragua helping reduce local taxes on U.S products
