What is the Moon phase pattern?
Earth: just like every other planet, earth orbits around the sun and has other celestial bodies or "satellite(s)" that orbit around it
- it takes Earth 365.25 days (or 1 calendar year) to make a full orbit around the sun
- Earth rotates on a tilted axis, takes 24hrs (1 day) to make 1 full rotation
Sun: center of our solar system, every planet orbits around it
- rotates inconsistently on an axis- takes approx. 25-27 days to make 1 full rotation
- different parts of it rotate at different speeds because it isn't a solid- its a giant star made of "gas" (really hot plasma)
How do the Sun, Earth, and Moon move and work together?
Moon: earth's only satellite, it reflects light from the sun and appears to be invisible during daytime because of sun's brightness
- revolves (orbits) around the Earth approx. every 27 days
- the moon's gravity pushes/pulls earth's ocean tides

Did You Know? The Earth orbits the sun every 365 ¼ days We count 1 calendar year as 365 days. But what about the ¼ day?? Ever heard of a leap year? That's where it goes! Since ¼ (or 0.25) is 1 out of 4, we add one extra day to the calendar every 4 years! This year is a leap year!! The next one will be in 2028
