biography

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, born Rolihlahla Mandela (18 July 1918 – 5 December 2013) was a South African anti-apartheid activist and politician who served as the first president of South Africa from 1994 to 1999.

HIS PROGRESS

POLITICALMOBILIZATION

The ANC (African National Congress) is a political party that originated as a liberation movement. Having the same goal, Mandela joined, and helped them thrive.

ARMED RESISTANCE

After the ANC was banned in 1960, Mandela realised that pacifism wouldn't cut it, he co-founded the militant uMkhonto we Sizwe, and led a sabotage campaign.

NEGOTIATION

As mentioned before, Mandela believed in peaceful interaction and democracy, and so, after his release in 1990, he negotiated with the apartheid government, leading to South Africa's first multiracial elections.

THE NObel prize

In this video we see both Nelson Mandela and F. W. de Klerk being given the nobel peace prize, congratulating their efforts in ensuring a peaceful transition from apartheid to democracy in South Africa. (Yes, de Klerk won it too)
