What You Need to Know
Child dedication is a reflection of your faith, not your child's.
A parent-child dedication celebrates parents' promise to raise their children according to God's ways and is an opportunity for the church to commit to praying for them and helping them in their parenting journey. This is what makes dedication different from an infant baptism or christening.
At NewSpring, we believe salvation occurs when someone decides to start a relationship with Jesus and baptism is how they go public with their faith. A parent’s faith does not automatically determine a child’s faith, and being dedicated does not save a child from their sin. Instead, dedication is about the parents and their church family committing to doing everything they can to help that child grow up hearing about Jesus and having the opportunity to start a relationship with Him.
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."
— Deuteronomy 6:4-7

Where do we see parent-child dedication in the Bible?
Click the button to see how parent-child dedication follows a tradition we see in Scripture.
Parent-child dedications are a spiritually significant milestone.
Parent-child dedication is a modern-day way for parents to bring their children before God, thank Him for the blessing, and commit to honoring Him with their lives and parenting decisions. It's also an opportunity for the church to remind parents that they aren't in this alone. They've got the prayers and support of their whole church family!
