The port of London authority.

The Port of London Authority was created to bring order to the chaos and congestion that prevailed on the Thames as rival wharfs, docks and river users battled for business in the late 1800s.
The only form of British international transport and trade at the time was sea-based and a successful port was essential to a nation's success. Structural improvements were seen to be essential to maintain and improve the port's position.

The city of London

A city in the city

Just as the Gaul village of Obélix and Asterix is surrounded by Roman camps, the city of London is a small village inside London City. The city is twice as large as the little Gaul village in Armoric, that is to say 2.9 km. It also has its own Abraracourcix, its own mayor, elected by the habitants of the village (8.584 habitants). This village, quite modern, hosts the London Stock Exchange, the city hall of course and many more buildings that I invite you to discover !

The history of The Port of London
The Port of London has been the centrepiece of the British capital's economy since the Anglo-Saxons. In the 18th and 19th centuries , the Port of London was the busiest in the world and stretched along the River Thames for about 18 km and had about 1,500 cranes loading and unloading 60,000 ships per year.
Since the advent of large ships and containers and container ships the importance of the port has declined throughout the second half of the 20th century .
