Climate Change in Central Park

Impact

Central Park has been negatively affected by climate change in a number of ways. The climate has gotten warmer, weather patterns have become more unpredictable, and smog clouds the skies. The warmer climate has disrupted some wildlife patterns, and made certain species more vulnerable. Human industrialization has done more damage than not, causing light pollution everywhere, with cancer rates at an all time high in the surrounding area. Further industrialization is becoming increasingly dangerous due to increased flood risks.

Actions to Fight Climate Crisis

Central Park has started to take actions to fight against the climate crisis. Tree care has become a top priority in central park, as New York as a whole lacks much vegetation, and the trees in Central Park are the last line of defense against the climate crisis. Water has also become more heavily regulated, with stormwater and irrigation management becoming increasingly regulated.

Local and Global Similarities

Locations like Hyde Park in London have been suffering from similar conditions as Central Park. The region around these parks largely suffer from increasing temperatures and decreasing biodiversity due to human intervention in industrialization. On a global level, the damage done to vegetative life due to human industrialization has largely caused an increase in greenhouse gases in our atmosphere, detrimenting the climate as a control.
