Final Exam Information
- Alleles are different versions of the same gene
- In diploid organisms:
- Each gene will have two alleles, one on each homologous chromosome
Alleles
- Each allele will have different levels of expression
- Types of allele dominance:
- Dominant allele - version of the gene that will be expressed if present
- Recessive allele - version of the gene that will not be expressed if present with a dominant allele
- Codominant allele - you will learn about this one in the lecture
Allele Dominance
Recessive allele (lowecase letter)
Dominant allele (uppercase letter)
- Each allele will have different levels of expression
- Types of allele dominance:
Allele Dominance
- Genotype - specific nucleotide sequence for a gene but usually shortened as two letters
- Types of genotypes:
- Homozygous dominant - both alleles are the dominant allele
- Homozygous recessive - both alleles are the recessive allele
- Heterozygous - one allele is dominant and the other is recessive

- Complete the Day 1 lab manual during class today:
- Part 1 - Examine a Reebop karyotype and the appearance of the parent Reebops
- Part 2 - Examine the parents' karyotypes
- Part 3 - Build a baby Reebop!
