Representing institutional racism and enslavment which enablled America's Illegal and secrect trade of the dead bodies in the 19th century
Meet The Evil Professor
The highly organized cadaver trade in 19th century America meant that people who were enslaved and subjected to agregous violations of abuse in life were never free from exploitation; even in death. Their bodies were non-consensually used for medical dissections. Medical schools like Harvard required bodies for anatomical studies and dissections. These cadavers, usually of Black people, were regularly supplied by illegal and immoral means. The cadaver trade was multifaceted, and many people contributed to and normalised it. Enslavers allowed the bodies of deceased people who were enslaved to be harvested or exhumed for sale. Medical doctors, who considered people who had been enslaved as their personal property, directly transferred cadavers to medical institutions for dissection. Professors of anatomy encouraged grave robbing activities to obtain cadavers for anatomical instruction.

Reveal Code
Joice Heath was a woman born in the 1750’s and sold into slavery. She was the Nurse of George Washington before she was once again sold and made into the main attraction of an infamous showman's so-called ‘freak show’. She spent the last year of her life being put on display in shows. The showman claimed she was a 161 year old woman. When she died, the showman organized his last show; her public autopsy. Described as a “bodily invasive circus,” observers and medical students paid to marvel at Ms. Heath’s internal organs and dead body. Between the shows of her life and after death, her exploiter made what would today be equivilent to $1,102,336; none of which Joice saw a single a cent of. She died at around the true age of 65.
