Marie raised her arms over her head and stretched. "I can't believe we beat the high score!" She walked over to the window and opened the curtains. The streets were quiet and the streetlamps were on. "Oh no! My dad's not going to be happy with me!"

Becky shouted in frustration and slammed the fridge door shut.
"What's wrong?" Allie asked as she licked the pink frosting from her fingers.
"I can't find the strawberry cupcake that I bought at the bake sale!" Becky exclaimed.
Allie gulped. "It didn't happen to have red sprinkles on it, did it?"

"Laura, I thought you were going to rake the yard," Mom said.
Laura looked up from her book. "I did! Didn't you see the huge pile of leaves out front?"
Just then, Laura's cousins walked in the front door, brushing leaves and twigs from their clothes.
